FN in her Later Years
FN lore has it that in old age Florence Nightingale had her own
"nurse." Each night the "nurse" would tuck Miss Nightingale into her
bed and retire herself. Then Miss Nightingale would rise and go tuck in
the "nurse." She remained intelligent and focused. She even wrote
very serious papers in her 80s, giving lie to the "sexist" rumor of her
dying of syphilis -- she showed no mental dementia ever.
