Derbyshire

The area of Derbyshire around the Nightingale home at Lea Hurst. Note the proximity of the lead works and the hat factory.

FN returned home from the Crimean War with her aunt Mai Smith under the name Miss Smith. She stopped in London and spent a week in prayer with the Catholic Bermondsey Convent nuns she had served with in Turkey and Russia. She then travelled alone on the train, getting off at Whatstandwell and walking the rest of the way home.
